대학로를 따라 형성된 기존의 남–북 방향 보행 흐름에 대응하여, 본 프로젝트는 이 흐름을 반영한 새로운 남–북 축을 도입한다. 이 축은 주변 도시 맥락을 내부 공간으로 끌어들이며, 건물의 공간 조직을 형성하는 주요한 구조로 작동한다.
또한 기존 Arko Art Museum이 낙산과 대학로를 연결하는 관문으로 설명된 점에 주목하여, 이 두 영역을 잇는 수평적 축을 함께 설정하였다.
Responding to the existing north–south pedestrian paths formed along Daehak-ro, the project introduces a new north–south axis that reflects this flow. This axis draws the surrounding urban context into the building and becomes a primary organizational structure for the spatial configuration.
In addition, as the architect described the Arko Art Museum as a gateway between these two areas, a horizontal axis connecting Naksan and Daehak-ro was identified and incorporated into the project.
Mass
2층에 위치한 기존 공용 공간의 활용도를 높이기 위해, 수평적으로 길게 뻗은 매스를 확장하였다. 이 긴 매스는 전시 공간과 공용 공간 사이의 동선을 자연스럽게 연결하며, 길게 연속된 유리창을 통해 전면의 마로니에 공원 풍경을 내부로 끌어들인다. 이를 통해 2층의 공용 공간을 강화하는 동시에, 상부의 3층 전시 공간 또한 확장하였다.
To make better use of the existing common space on the second floor, a long horizontal mass was extended. This elongated volume naturally connects circulation between the exhibition spaces and the shared areas, while a continuous strip of glazing frames views toward the Maronnier Park in front of the site. As a result, the shared space on the second floor is reinforced, and the exhibition space on the third floor is expanded.
Program
각 층의 프로그램은 건물의 긴 형태를 따라 병렬로 배치되며, 남–북 축을 따라 형성된 통로를 통해 서로 연결된다. 그러나 이 통로는 일방적인 선형 동선이 아닌, 사용자가 다양한 방식으로 이동하고 머물 수 있는 유연한 동선으로 계획되었다.
The programs on each floor are arranged in parallel along the elongated form of the building and are connected by a corridor that follows the north–south axis. Rather than functioning as a strictly linear route, this corridor is designed as a flexible circulation that allows for multiple paths and spatial experiences.
